The band is born after Sergi Sirvent returns from New York to BCN in 2004.
Since a long time before, Sergi and I had wanted to start a project together but we had never found the right moment. Once Sergi arrived from NY, we arranged a session with Òscar Domènech and Marc Cuevas. Sergi and Marc had been together in NY and knew each other for long.
On the other hand, Oscar and I are cousins and have been more than ten years playing together. From the very first session, the four of us felt reslly good vibrations playing along.
I was really dazzled by the way Marc played the bass, as I had only known him as a guitar player. He and Oscar got along from the first moment and now they are one of the most demanded rhythmic base.
Sergi Sirvent has always been one of my favourite musicians, he has a power and a sensibility only comparable to a few.
The combination of compositions of Sergi, Marc or mine, makes the group have an unlimited variety of registers.
In february 2005 we got to the studio and after recording twenty songs we chose the eight best pieces, regardless who the writer or what the song was: a sung theme, a swing up, a psychedelic, a "Debussy", another one heavy metal... All this and much more is what Hat is. Music with space, energy, humor and dialog.
"Wear different hats" in an english expression that means stylistic variety, the negation of the one-dimensionality. This would be a way to describe Hat.
